Amazon goes anti-gay (now updated)

Or at least, that’s the implicit effect of a policy ruling that selectively bans “adult content” from search results and best-seller lists on the site. We’re not amazed to discover that “adult content” mainly consists of gay and lesbian novels and comics with relatively little explicit sexual material.

Mark R. Probst has more.

Update:

Andrea James has the inside scoop; not, as “some had suggested, a co-ordinated “prank” played by Internet idiots”:http://tehdely.livejournal.com/88823.html, but user error on an Amazon.fr metadata tool that updated the world-wide Amazon catalogue.

Amazon’s inept and unco-ordinated PR response and lack of serious will to make sure it won’t happen again has not gone un-noted.
