Correction of the Day

From Gawker, a magnificant howler from — you guessed it — The Guardian:

We misspelled the word misspelled twice, as mispelled, in the Corrections and clarifications column on September 26, page 30.

Spotted via Brad DeLong’s blog, on which a commentator points out another couple of classics:

Not bad, but I prefer the one “Slate” just turned up from the NY Times: “A brief art review in Weekend on May 8, 1987 misstated the location of a small painting. It was displayed in the vitrine near the receptionist’s desk, not the latrine.” (That, and the apology the LA Times ran a few years ago for running a photograph of a death cap in its “Food” section under the caption “Edible Mushrooms”.)
