Comics Comics blog The Beat to relocate by Kate

Comics blog The Beat have announced they will be moving off the Publishers Weekly site to a home all of their own. The new website, www.comicsbeat.com will go live “over the next few weeks”. This shift is largely down to the bigger changes happening at PW, including an imminent change of ownership. The full story here

The folks at Last Hours have two new books out; an anthology of Morgenmuffel zine called Diary of a Miscreant and Excessive Force, a comic anthology about police brutality. And you only have a few days left if you want to make absolute sure your Last Hours merchandise arrives in time for xmas (including all their other zines and comics, like Hey Monkey Riot and Last Hours).

Comics Webcomic recommendations from Feministe by Kate

Chally from Feministe has recommended ten (feminist-friendly) webcomics for those new to webcomics as well as those of us just looking for something new to read. Comics Grant Morrison Project with BBC Scotland by Nick

Is the rumour being cast about by Bleeding Cool today.

Comics Forbidden Planet blog: comic conventions series by Kate

Forbidden Planet International blog is doing a series on UK comic conventions, interviewing different convention organisers. This is both to promote some well-deserving conventions and also to flesh out some of the realities of convention organising. The series is now up to number 5; Mike Allwood of the Bristol Comics Expo. Earlier segments featured Hi-Ex’s Vicky Stonebridge, BICS’ Shane Chebsey, Caption’s Jay Eales and LUC’s Oli Smith so I have some catching up to do.

Books Book review: Publish You (Alternative Press) by Kate

Publish You features contributions from a broad range of small press types drawn from the recent Alternative Press Festival in London. These include illustrators, writers, poets and comic creators. And, as evidenced at Alternative Press events, the self-published comic scene in the UK is going strong. Kebab shop anecdotes seem to be the only other recurring theme of a varied collection. The book was compiled by Jimi Gherkin, Peter Lally, Gareth Brookes and Saban Kâzim.
