Media Correction of the Day by Nick
From Gawker, a magnificant howler from — you guessed it — The Guardian:
We misspelled the word misspelled twice, as mispelled, in the Corrections and clarifications column on September 26, page 30.
Spotted via Brad DeLong’s blog, on which a commentator points out another couple of classics:
Not bad, but I prefer the one “Slate” just turned up from the NY Times: “A brief art review in Weekend on May 8, 1987 misstated the location of a small painting. It was displayed in the vitrine near the receptionist’s desk, not the latrine.” (That, and the apology the LA Times ran a few years ago for running a photograph of a death cap in its “Food” section under the caption “Edible Mushrooms”.)

Media Magazine review: make/shift issue 2 by Kate
I didn’t actually think I could be any more enthusiastic about make/shift magazine (subtitle: feminisms in motion) than I already had been, but then the second issue arrives in the post with an (apparently unintentional) media theme and that theory promptly fell by the wayside.

Media Gossip mongering goes international by Kate

Media The Independent takes issue with Out magazine's Pink List by Kate
but only because it claims ownership of the terminology , not due to any criticism of dubious excursions in outing.
“I would be lying if I told you I wasn’t aware of your list,” Aaron Hicklin, editor of Out, said yesterday.
And in return, the Independent on Sunday sighs in relief and feels thoroughly validated.

Media Magazine review: Velvetpark by Kate
Velvetpark has sought to be the tattooed dyke to Diva (or Curve, depending on geography) magazine’s pant-suited lesbian for a few years now. And its dyke badge is something that the magazine wears proudly, having challenged the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) over their use of the word dyke, a word previously rejected as being “immoral and scandalous”. This seems to be the only appearance of anything resembling scandal, in this particular issue anyway. While the cover stars may feature the Chicago Rollergirls, the real star of the issue is Martina Navratilova.
